Design Criteria & Parameters Guide
Design Pressure (Pn), Design Temperature (Tn), and Corrosion Allowance (C.A.)
The technical essentials of the three core governing parameters determining equipment wall thickness, safety factor, and operating lifespan.

The Three Founding Parameters
These three parameters form the foundational starting point for every pressure vessel and heat exchanger calculation.
An inaccurately specified design pressure or insufficient corrosion allowance can compromise plant safety or result in inflated capital expenditures.
Parameter Breakdown
Pn — Design Pressure
The maximum allowable working pressure envelope under the most severe operating conditions. Relief valve settings and hydrostatic test pressures are calculated from Pn.
Tn — Design Temperature
The concurrent maximum and minimum metal temperature boundaries. Tn directly establishes the allowable stress limits of the selected metallurgy.
C.A. — Corrosion Allowance
Sacrificial wall thickness added to the structural minimum to resist chemical fluid loss over the specified design lifecycle (e.g. 1.5 mm - 3.0 mm).
